Working in Finance at ASOS

Our finance function operates at the heart of ASOS. Say goodbye to preconceptions of bean-counters and hello to a multi-functional, business facing department. Our finance team controls the cash within the business and also provides support to the business to help it make decisions to lead us to being a global online fashion destination.

The finance team is very well respected and recognised here at ASOS. The team has really developed over the last few years growing from 31 people in 2010 to 49 people at the start of 2012. The function plays a huge role in our company performance and they are full of ideas to take that even further with a growing and dynamic team.

The roles we have are really diverse, here’s a bit about what we do:

Accounts Payable

The team consists of a stock and non stock team both of whom work closely with our buyers, cost centre owners and external suppliers to ensure relationships are well managed, payments are made on time and early settlement discounts are maximised.

Tax

We are responsible for ASOS’s tax compliance around the Globe. The team currently focus on Corporation Tax and VAT in the UK and sales taxes in Europe. However, as ASOS continues to expand internationally, the team is providing advice to the business on those strategic plans from areas such as delivery and returns and in country teams.

Treasury

The team manage the Group’s cash, ensuring we have sufficient funds to service the needs of the business today and in the future. The team also manages the Group’s foreign currency risks from buying and selling in multiple currencies.

Management Accounts and External Reporting

We are responsible for providing actual results and variance analysis to budgets / forecasts to the business through the production of ASOS’s Monthly Management Accounts. The team is responsible for ensuring all information is accurately captured and accounted for under the relevant accounting standards .In addition, they are responsible for maintaining the financial control environment within ASOS. The External Reporting team are responsible for preparing the Annual Report and Accounts of the Group and all subsidiary Financial Statements and managing their external audit. In addition, the team are responsible for providing all financial elements of Stock Exchange releases such as results presentations and trading statements.

Commercial finance

Our commercial finance team are the most retail facing of our finance team. The team takes care of our short and long term forecasting in the business. They work with Merchandisers to plan the sales, margins and stocks, company wide budget holders to keep a tight eye on our costs and also the international team to manage the profitability of the countries we ship to. The commercial team also provides the business with detailed analysis on customer profitability, pricing and behavioural trends. If you are looking for Finance with a less traditional focus these guys are your team.
